While concrete floors are relatively easy to care for compared to other types of flooring, they do require routine attention. How much maintenance your floor will need largely depends on the amount of traffic it receives, facility operations, and whether or not you are providing maintenance on a regular basis.
How much maintenance your concrete flooring requires will vary, not just based on the size of your facility, but also your industry and what sorts of traffic your floor is subject to.
A polished concrete floor lasts for years if well maintained. Concrete commonly has a compression strength of around 3500 PSI and, with a polished finish, a typical surface hardness of 7 on Mohs scale. Polished concrete is an excellent choice for chip-resistant, load-bearing, and easy-to-clean commercial or industrial flooring.
Its smooth surface is dust-resistant, so a polished concrete floor only needs regular basic cleaning to remove dust that may collect on the surface from day to day. Mopping with a mild, ph-neutral soap-and-water solution will net you a clean floor without any stress. Be sure to remember that strong alkaline soap solutions are detrimental to the sealants, and buffed wax and will negatively affect the longevity of the concrete floor.
If the surface loses its shine after a period of time, a simple maintenance burnishing or light polish may be all that is needed to get your flooring to look new again.
While polished concrete resists the buildup of dust or stains, that doesn't mean that maintenance can be completely pushed aside. Regular maintenance is still required, especially in areas with high levels of traffic, to ensure that the polish (and any dyes or stains used to color it) aren't worn away over time.
